The Otherside: Harry Potter on the honeymoon, unsavory condoms, live scorpians

Carried across the bookstore threshold
Harry Potter has trumped an Oregon couple's honeymoon. Instead of a newlywed suite, their first stop after the ceremonies are over will be a bookstore.

"The Oregon couple is to be married Friday. After their reception, they plan to head to a bookstore to buy the final Harry Potter book," the AP said.

Uhm, I have nothing to say. This one stuns even me.

Unsavory

A company in India is getting, well, creative in the battle against HIV. They're making condoms that... taste bad, according to Reuters.

They say the condom "evokes the pungent taste of betel nut in a fresh move to tackle the high incidence of HIV in the country."

Maybe I'm missing something, but making a condom that no one wants to use seems conterproductive, but maybe India knows something about sex that I don't.

Rolling in her grave?
Jane Austin has been rejected, posthumously, according to Reuters.

A British man, after failing to get his own novel published (who hasn't?) sent out query letters to publishers describing his book, which was a complete ripoff of Pride and Prejudice. He was rejected--17 times.

So, they didn't recognize a literay classic. But that's not a cause for alarm. I mean, afterall, the publishing industry has inflicted the world with the prose of great writers like Taylor Hicks and Paris Hilton. Oh, wait.

Burglars, think twice (or just wear really thick gloves)
A Michigan jewler is protecting his "one-of-a-kind and limted edition" items with live scorpians. Yeah, that makes total sense. Alarm companies are totally unreasonable with their rates. Live scorpians, sure. That's normal. Now, as for that liability insurance...

PC Magazine Interview

I just did a phone interview with a writer from PC Magazine about Wikiworld and Wikinovel. He's writing a story about collaborative fiction through wiki technology. Not sure when or if anything will be published, or where, but I'll post something when I find out.

Trial and Error

I've started a new blog, Trial and Error, that will be a supplement to Where Doubt Remains -- my multimedia project on wrongful convictions. I'll blog mainly about news items I see, but also will have some more in-depth pieces that will be supplements to Where Doubt Remains.

I am your benevolent creator

Or rather, a benevolent creator, I guess.

I took this test today and added it to my Facebook profile. The people who've rated me on the test are getting pretty close the view I have of myself, so that's a good thing. Try it yourself.

Sitting down

More from my tv days. This one is a good bit longer, and my delivery gets a lot better at the end. At some points my makeup is bad and I look like a raccoon, but, other than that...

Standing up

Here's some stand-ups I did back in my tv days. Maybe they'll be useful when I start looking for jobs again.

Where Doubt Remains

As I mentioned previously, I'm working on a convergence project as the capstone for my master's in journalism. It'll be published at wheredoubtremains.com and is scheduled to launch Decmber 1, 2007.

The project will focus on several wrongful convictions in the state of West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

MediaStorm

MediaStorm is Brian Storm's multimedia production studio. They publish multimedia projects at mediastorm.org, kind of like the one I'm working on for my master's, Where Doubt Remains. Brian came and spoke at the journalism school last spring. He had interesting stuff to say about the real future of journalism, a future where everything is converged.
